Corona Test Drive-In Duebendorf

Universitätsklinik Balgrist

Project description

When an idea has to become infrastructure in no time

Two weeks from concept to operation. In the midst of a pandemic. And with the goal of safely and efficiently guiding hundreds of people through a testing process every day.

For Balgrist University Hospital, we were able to apply our expertise in temporary structures, logistics, and visitor management to set up the Corona Test Drive-In at the Dübendorf military airfield—exactly where it was urgently needed.

On the tarmac in front of Hangar 8, a functional infrastructure consisting of tents, containers, access roads, and clearly defined process routes was established in no time. Instead of airplanes, passenger cars now rolled across the grounds—from the reception area through the testing station to the exit—without visitors having to leave their vehicles.

Just a few days after opening, the enormous demand became apparent. Capacity was expanded to around 500 tests per day, and in addition to PCR tests, rapid antigen tests were also used.

This was a project focused not on spectacle, but on functionality. Clear procedures, rapid implementation, and an infrastructure that could flexibly adapt to an extraordinary situation.

And an example of how expertise from the event industry can have an impact far beyond events themselves.

Quickly planned. Temporarily built. For a task that brooked no delay.
